About this Position
We are looking for a curious, hands-on Designer to help turn product ideas into practical, market-
ready solutions. You will explore bamboo as a primary material, develop concepts, make
prototypes, and work closely with production, operations, and marketing teams to bring designs to
life. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who takes ownership, learns through experimentation, and
gets excited about seeing something they imagined become a real, usable product. If you’re excited
to work hands-on with bamboo — not just design on a computer, but actually make, test and refine
the samples yourself, then this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities:
• Work from development to Final prototyping.
• Research & Documentation
• Prototype & Iterate: Work hands-on with bamboo, tools and machines to test and refine
designs. Ideate to design and prototype product development
• Design for Manufacturing: Design for functionality, manufacturability, quality and cost.
• Own the Product: Take ideas from concept to production-ready products.
Candidate Proffile
• 2–4 years of relevant experience in product or furniture design.
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D design software for concept development, visualisation, technical
drawings, and prototyping.
• Willingness to work hands-on to develop samples using laser cutters, CNC routers, mitre
saws, table saws, and handheld routers, with appropriate training and safety practices.
2
• Curiosity to explore materials, manufacturing methods, and new technologies.
• Strong research and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate findings into practical
design solutions.
• Ability to document design iterations, material specifications, and production requirements
clearly.
• Adaptability to work on unfamiliar projects, test ideas, learn from setbacks, and respond to
changing requirements.
• Ability to understand customer needs and market trends while considering production
feasibility.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with artisans, production
teams, operations, marketing, and external partners.
• Ownership of assigned work, with accountability for quality, timelines, and follow-through.
• Interest in sustainable design and social enterprise, with a respectful, collaborative
approach to working with producer communities.
Good to Have
• Experience designing or developing products using bamboo.
• Practical experience operating laser cutters, CNC routers, or other woodworking and
furniture-making machinery.
What You Can Expect
This role offers hands-on learning across design, manufacturing, supply chain, and marketing. You
will take ideas from concept to sample development, understand how products are made, and refine
designs based on production feedback and market needs.
You should be comfortable experimenting, learning from unsuccessful trials, and adapting quickly.
The role involves travel to production locations, including frequent stays of a few days to support
sampling and product development.
Education
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Product Design from a Tier 1 or Tier 2 design institute.
