India is the world’s second-largest bamboo producer. And yet, it imports processed bamboo.

The missing piece has always been processing — close to where the bamboo grows, and close to the communities that depend on it.

CM N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for a new bamboo processing unit at Maredumilli, Andhra Pradesh — a development that aligns closely with the work Industree Foundation has been doing on the ground.

Bamboo is one of the core value chains we work with. The evidence is clear — when rural producer communities gain access to the full value chain, not just the harvesting end, the economic outcomes shift meaningfully. Incomes stabilise. Livelihoods diversify. Local enterprise takes root.

Processing infrastructure, placed close to the source, is what makes that possible. It keeps value where the work happens.

Maredumilli has the bamboo and the producer base. This unit is a step towards building the economic infrastructure to match.
