India is the world’s second-largest bamboo grower, yet its potential remains largely untapped. Through the REAL Project, SAP and Industree Foundation are transforming this landscape, strengthening sustainable bamboo farming, supporting small and marginal farmers, and pioneering India’s first FSC-certified bamboo plantations in Maharashtra.

With 30,000 saplings planted, 167 acres rejuvenated, stronger FPOs (Farmer-Producer Organizations), and intercropping with medicinal plants, farmers are seeing long-term income growth, better market linkages, and access to national and global buyers. The project also drives climate action through bamboo’s incredible carbon sequestration and places women at the center of climate-resilient livelihoods.

Watch how bamboo cultivation, Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification, and farmer-led institutions are reshaping rural futures and building a sustainable bamboo economy for India.
