Industree’s Arunachal Bamboo Plantation team organized a large-scale mobilization drive across Namsai district, Arunachal Pradesh on the occasion of World Bamboo Day. The awareness rally covered five villages, Lathao, Momong, Chongkham, Gunanagar, and Solungtoo, reaching out to around 100 farmers.
As a result of the campaign, many farmers came forward for immediate registration, while others expressed strong interest in bamboo cultivation.
The team briefed Self-Help Group (SHG) members and villagers on the long-term benefits of bamboo cultivation. The sessions highlighted opportunities such as Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification and additional income potential through carbon credits. Importantly, the activity also prepared the ground for the upcoming distribution of bamboo saplings, as part of the ongoing bamboo scale-up initiative, where Arunachal Pradesh State Rural Livelihoods Mission with Industree Foundation, as its technical and knowledge partner will work with 50,000 SHG (Self-Help Group) women, into the bamboo value chain. The Chief of Momong village also extended his support, expressing keen interest in promoting bamboo plantation as a sustainable livelihood option within his community.
The mobilization drive marks a significant step in building awareness and participation around bamboo cultivation, setting the stage for expanding green livelihoods and climate-resilient practices in the region.
This effort is part of the Bamboo Sub-Sector Initiative by the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) by the Government of India, aiming to empower a million rural women over the next 4-5 years through bamboo cultivation and connect to markets. Watch the video: https://lnkd.in/p/gekgArkV
