Bamboo skill training workshop for artisans conducted in Telangana

The 15-day Bamboo Handicrafts Advanced Skill Training Program, held from May 13 to May 29, 2025, was completed in Gogulapudi Village, Aswaraopeta Mandal, and Pusukunta Village, Dammapeta Mandal, in Bhadradri Kothagudem District, Telangana. The training aimed to enhance the skills of local tribal artisans in bamboo craft, value addition, and entrepreneurial development. Twenty master artisans participated across both locations. Sessions covered bamboo selection and harvesting, preservation and treatment methods, traditional and modern product design, and safe use of tools and machinery. Resource persons included Dhirendra (Bamboo Craft and Product Design Expert), Murugan and Rosy (Bamboo Product Making Specialists), and Lakshman (Training Coordinator and Field Facilitator).

Funded by the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) Bhadrachalam with support from the Discretionary Grants of the Honourable Governor of Telangana, the initiative was implemented as part of a broader effort to advance sustainable rural development and skill-building in the bamboo sector.

Organizers reported high levels of engagement from the community, with participants eager to apply their new skills toward sustainable income generation. The team thanked ITDA Bhadrachalam, local leaders, the communities, and all field staff for supporting the program’s success. This initiative was recognized as a key step in strengthening green livelihoods and promoting eco-friendly alternatives in rural Telangana.
